Serafina has a new rat to catch!

Hey, Friends!

Phew! I’m starting to understand why you humans like diving into pools during the summer. Between the heat, the humidity, and the smoke, I’m starting to feel like my scales are melting off. It’s a good thing I’ve got some really cool books to read. I get so caught up in the pages, I forget all about the soaring temperatures.

Speaking of, I just recently finished reading Serafina and the Twisted Staff by Robert Beatty, the second book in the three-book series. If you haven’t read that book yet, you can find my original review here. This book picks up shortly after the events of Serafina and the Black Cloak, so you’ll want to make sure you read these books in order or you’ll be as lost as a rat in a maze.

Something wicked this way comes

In this book, Serafina has come out of the shadows of the Biltmore Estate and is trying to figure out exactly where she fits in the world. While visiting her mother in the forest, she witnesses a mysterious migration of the woodland creatures. With Christmas just a couple weeks away, it’s far too late to be heading south for the winter. After being warned by her mother that the forest has become too dangerous, even for the catamounts, Serafina discovers that something far more sinister than the man in the black cloak has invaded the mountains around Biltmore.

With her home, her friends, her family, and her mountains in grave danger, Serafina will be faced with her most difficult choice yet—and in the process she’ll have to come to terms with her true identity.

Raising the Stakes

This is a series that keeps getting better and better. Every chapter is filled with mystery and danger and suspense. I found myself guessing at where the story was going and who the mysterious enemy really was. By the time I got to the end, I was doubly surprised!

Like Serafina and the Black Cloak, there are some elements to the story that might not be suitable for some sensitive readers. But if you like a spooky story, this is the book for you! Despite that warning, I’m going to give Serafina and the Twisted Staff 5 dark chocolate eggs. I’ve already got Serafina and the Splintered Heart next to my nest and I can’t wait to start reading it! Stay tuned.

Wishing you cool breezes and happy reading!
